Stand out piece – long waistcoat.

Standard

Hello!

Manly-shaped, military-like and over-sized clothes completely took over women’s wardrobes in the past few seasons. From straight-cut coats, military shirts to perfectly tailored, elongated blazers. For as much as any girl can pull it off unquestionably, without affecting their femininity, I always make sure that if I go for the manly-tailored piece, I give it a little bit of a feminine touch. This fab piece – long sleeveless blazer, being quite feminine in itself, didn’t need too much of my input into making the outfit girly, but I wanted to put my own stamp on it by mixing it with something more unpredictable than skinnies and classy top (elegant take on the outfit). I matched it with simple tee, denim shorts and converse! Who said that blazers have to be stiff and boring? This casual combo only proves my favorite rule in clothing – that there’s no rules! As long as we feel comfortable in something, it should be acceptable, and the more different variations of outfits we can create with one stand out piece, the better! This time I created an every-day, casual look, but I’m sure my stand-out waistcoat will also be a base to many other, more classy outfits.

Hello Peeps!

Hope life is treating you well!

Dunno how about you, but I get quite tired of my wardrobe from time to time (hence the amounts of clothes you can find in it!). I don’t mean the nearly every-day: I’ve got nothing to wear ‘drama’, but an actual need to refurbish the entire closet, or better – a complete change of style! Now, because I know myself quite well, I know that those flashes of genius may go as quickly as they came, and I will be back to missing my usual simple comfy clothes, so I don’t go too drastic and don’t give away all my clothes to charity every time such thought crosses my mind. Instead, just to satisfy my temporarily need of trying something new, I let myself loose and allow myself to go a little bit crazy. I try to apply trends that I love but which I normally wouldn’t consider my usual style, or simply things that are cool and corky, but not practical for work or my every day activities . That’s what weekends are for! This time I went for my fave of the latest trends – sport luxe. So easily done – just mix a sporty piece with something glam – let it be a statement jewelry piece, sparkly gadget (sequin shorts with a jersey top, etc) or a stand-out clutch bag! You can also go for a sporty clothes in combination with heels, and the luxe feel will speak through your outfit itself! I went for a sporty pants and baseball hat with heels combo – something different! 😉

PS. I know my posts weren’t coming your way as frequently as they should recently, but I’ve got some news for you – now you can find me on Instagram with every-day updates of what I’m #wearing today – get the #4getmenot hash-tag trending!! @4getmenotblog

Let it loose..

Standard

As the weather continues to spoil us, and I hear the first moans and complaints (that it’s suddenly too hot?!? as if such thing existed in Ireland!! ;-)) – I hurry to come to the rescue! No, not with a fan! – but with a quick advice of what to wear in the heat, to feel fresh and comfortable, and at the same time to avoid sarcastic comments in the likes of Dress for the body you have, not the body you wish you had..

Rule no one is : let it loose! Why? The sarcastic comments may sound mean or cheeky, but there’s definatley a little bit of thruth in them.. The fact that it’s warm does not mean that we should forget  about the simple rules of tastefulness. Short denim short are cool, but the cheeks on your face should be the only cheeks you wear on the display 😉 bikini tops are designed to be worn on the beach, and as for the belly tops – these are reserved for limited occasions only… So what does that leave us with? – loose clothing, that is! From maxi dresses, through playsuits to loose tops and sheer blouses, we should have enough to choose from! Tasteful and comfy! Light and fun!

My outfit is a work option really, but for a day in the park or bbq with friends I would go for little shorts with this over-sized shirt, as loose doesn’t need to mean shapeless! 😉

It’s Summertime!

Standard

Hello my favorite Peeps!

I know it’s been a while since I posted last.. But I’m back today, because TODAY, is special.. And it’s special for at least two reasons! First of all, the summer is in the full swing, and the sunshine is spoiling us, which is always a good reason to share happiness, but also, because today is exactly a year since I first started sharing my words of wisdom, and silly thoughts on fashion on pages of this blog!! 🙂 The time flew and my silly interest in fashion turned into this fun, no-hands-on-the-wheel journey, which not only was fun in itself, but also exposed me to many other interesting projects and experiences, which I’m extremely grateful for – and it’s all thanks to You Guys, it wouldn’t have happened without ya!! Thanks so much for sticking up with me – I feel the love!! So on this special occasion I thought I should treat Ya to a new post! Ready!? 🙂

Today’s outfit is all about keeping your spirit up, whether it’s sunny or not! It’s easily done but applying a few simple rules. First of all, make sure that you keep your summer wardrobe completely separate to what you wear during colder days! It may sound obvious, but many of us make the habit of wearing our favorite pieces through the whole year. I don’t mean the wooly jumpers here, but a fave blouse, skirt or even a dress, which in winter we match with tights, and during warmer days pull off with showing bare, sun-kissed legs. Not that it’s a fashion fau-pax, cos it’s not! But wearing the same clothes the whole year round will make it harder for us to feel the difference in the passing seasons. It will be much easier for us to associate certain pieces of clothing with summer only, if we put them away for the rainy season. That way, every time we actually wear them – it will feel like the summer is just around the corner again 🙂

Another easy (and that’s what we like the most ;)) rule to obey  in order to brighten up our days, is wearing statement-colour pieces, or going a little bit crazy with funky patterns. This season think: florals, think: geometric prints. Well, when I say florals I mean  – within reason … as there’s only so much flowers one can take.. – after all, you don’t wanna pull Mrs Doubtfire… *ahem* – I mean Kim Kardashian. (I actually feel for the girl..).

I went for a mixture of colour and prints – red pants always make you noticeable in the crowd, but it’s up to you whether you should dress them up or dress them down (wearing red skinnies with a denim shirt is my favorite combo!). This time, tho, as it’s a special occasion after all – I dressed it up a little with classy but funky top and spiced it up with golden jewelry!

Spring has arrived!

Standard

Hello Peeps!

Hope you All are in great spring mood, just like me! At last! 🙂

Today’s post will show you how to style so called ‘boyfriend’ jeans in an elegant way. For those of  You, who don’t remember – previously I went for more of a sporty combo pairing the very same jeans with trainers and a casual jumper. But that’s not the only way to wear these chic pants! Depending on the occasion and on who I’m meeting with, I pair my clothes with different pieces each time, in order to achieve different looks. I always try to re-use my pieces of clothing in various ways, as then it feels like I have way more options to choose from! It’s also a great way of justifying to myself a purchase of a more pricey item 😉 If I’m gonna be able to match a piece with more than 2 other items and to style it in at least 2 different ways, it’s like buying 2 items for the price of one, righ?! 😉 Only messing… Excuses, excuses! 🙂 Anyway – going back to my boyfriend jeans outfit- this time I went for an office/work friendly combo – jeans matched with a blouse, heels and a clutch bag give the outfit a little bit more chic. Some colourful accessories break the dullness and seriousness of the outfit a little bit, and mark the arrival of long awaited Spring!

What are Your little wardrobe/fashion tricks?

Hey!

Don’t know how about you, but the minute the days start to get longer (when it stays bright outside till later hours) I get an immediate injection of energy and want to do more and get more active! Really helpful – especially if you want to get rid of the extra ‘warming fat’ ;p gained over the long months of winter. To put myself even in more of an ‘active’ mood I usually throw on some sneakers and comfy clothes, then, even during shopping escapade I feel like a regular walk turns more into a of a workout session. From there, there’s only one step from me getting into a proper sports gear and going for a jog around the park. But sporty outfit like this, in combination with some accessories like not-so-sporty bag, few bangles or a cool scarf can be your every-day set for running around the city. Don’t be afraid break the dull sporty combo with a splash of colour (I added my favorite this season lime-grren top) or some trendy detail like leggings with leather inserts. Reday? Steady? Go! 🙂

Ciao! Ania,

High-collared shirts to the rescue!

Standard

Hello!

It’s this unfortunate time of the year again, when due to the lack of sunshine (and with summer holidays being a distant memory at this stage) – I try to avoid showing off my skin. Partially because the last trails of my summer tan are faded and long  forgotten (and I just don’t like the when my skin is so pale that it could win against snow in a competition for the whitest white) but also because it’s not good for your skin to expose it to the low temperatures and icy-cold air. Just like the skin on your face or your hands need special treatment during winter, the rest of your body (especially your neck – most prone to show the signs of ageing) needs that extra layer of protection! In that instance, scarves may seem like the best solution, and they are… but you only wear them outdoors. What about an every-day look to be worn indoors? I’m not the biggest fan of turtle-necks, and at this stage I’m tired of wearing heavy jumpers, so I call ‘High-collared shirts to the rescue!’ Handy for any occasion, and can be worn on its own, as well as with a cardi or a little blazer jacket. Simple as!

I went for one of my favourite items – bow-tie shirt, and for the extra warmth and to dress my outfit down a little, I worn a plain top with leather/zip inserts over it. To tie the look together I added coated jeans and studded boots, and to break down the dull colours I’ve added a bright yellow clutch.

You can also try one of your plain or denim shirts and button them up to the top to achieve similar look. Have fun with it!

Loose fit.

Standard

Hello,

“Your clothes should be tight enough to show that you are a woman, but loose enough to show you are a Lady”. Those words by a legendary, Marilyn Monroe, are probably the only fashion rule that I always try to obey. ‘Thank Crunchie’ for the looser clothes and the boy-ish trends, which allow us to still look feminine, and feel comfortable at the same time. When I can, I forget about the trends and put on something that I fell good in, and in which I can relax. That’s when loose clothes come in handy. They also work, when you want to hide the part of your body that you’re not particularly crazy about. Loose tops help hide your belly, so you can eat your lunch without having to hold your breath for the rest of the day worrying that the food you’ve just eaten will show under your top 😉 I eat everything that’s put in front of me, so I’m extra grateful for the  loose fitted clothes in my wardrobe 😉

I also love tunic-shaped tops because they can be worn with leggings, without looking like you’ve forgotten to put your skirt on. There are so many options of leggings to choose from, from regular ones in variety of colours, to ones with studs, zips or leather inserts, but I was always hesitant to wear them in public,  until I’ve found long enough top to go with them. Because you need to remember  (no matter how great legs you have), you should always cover your bottom, either with a skirt or longer top, like I did.

This time I tried some colour blocking: b&w mixed with green leggings, and mink bag & heels to break it through. Now I’m off to have some lunch 🙂

Neon! Neon! Neon!

Standard

Hello Peeps 🙂

During what seems to be the longest wait for spring ever!, even the biggest lover of b&w as me (as you may have noticed), feels the urge to brighten up the dull days by injection of some colour, even if it’s just to your wardrobe! Who knows, maybe spring will get jealous and get to us quicker 😉

If you want to stay on top of the trends, choose from the vide palette of brights: yellow, bright green, oranges, intense reds (in toned version, for more elegant feel)  and all of the above in neon – to achieve more funky look. But remember – don’t force the trendy colours on yourself, if you don’t feel comfortable in them, as “the most beautiful colour in the world is the one that looks good on you” (Coco Chanel).

You can apply the colour to your wardrobe by choosing a main piece of your outfit in a bright shade, like a jacket or pants, or if you feel that it’s still to early in the year to go colour-crazy with your wardrobe, inject some life into your look by adding a bright accessory. Let it be a clutch bag, a scarf, statement jewelry, or…crazy coloured nails!

The key to ‘pulling-off’ the neon trend (which may sound a bit scary to some), is to maintain the proportions properly – simply by balancing it out with some safe colours from the basic palette. Never wear neon head-to-toe, just to make sure people will spot how trendy you are-  it’s bright enough, no matter how little of it you apply to your look, there is no need to worry – it won’t go unnoticed! 😉

I went for a plain, lime-green vest, and toned it down by adding black leather jacket and grey pants. Such a small effort, and such a big improvement to my mood 🙂 Try it for yourself!

Keep it casual..

Standard

Hello,

Lets hope that one day, my petition to extend the weekend to 3 days a week, will eventually get accepted and executed by the US government (the rest of the World will follow), but until then, we just have to take the most of the wee 2 days that we currently get! I’m a very active person, and even my days off are usually planned back to back, therefore I value the comfort of my outfits! I mentioned it many times before, but since sporty clothes are not usually the lead theme on the catwalks, I sometimes forget to update you on the more casual trends.. So here it comes.

For bottoms, think: leggings, jeggings, or of course, timeless jeans. Ideally, baggy – so called ‘boyfriend’s jeans’, which you can easily ‘make’ yourself (borrow a pair from your Man or an older Bro!) or simply buy regular jeans in a size or 2 too big! Remember, in order to achieve the comfy look, fold up the legs of your jeans and show off a bit of the skin! Rule to remember: don’t wear socks with your trainers, unless they cannot be seen from under your shoe! I know, I love my fluffy sock too, but colourful legs a la Sesame Street should be reserved for cosy nights in, in front of the tv!

When it comes to tops, think: anything that comes to your mind, that does not restrict your moves! May it be a denim/military shirt, loose cardigan or simple white tee. As it’s still a bit chill outside I put my bet on a plain jumper. It’s simple, which allows me to feel comfortable in, but ‘dressy’ enough in case I need to drop in for a bite (into a public place ;p).

Finally, for comfort on your feet, think: trainers, loafers or flat boots, according to personal preference. As mentioned earlier, as the King of the Moonwalk is not amongst us anymore (RIP), don’t flash your white socks in public, especially in combination with black footwear (not for this type of look anyway), those times are gone. Since I had to forget about wearing my multicolored socks myself, I decided to inject a a hint of colour into my outfit by adding a purple watch and pop-coloured nails.
